The Sequim-Dungeness Christmas Bird Count (SDCBC) covers a 15-mile diameter count circle, so we need lots of people familiar with birds to cover as much of the areas as possible. Even if you can only count your feeder or stroll around your neighborhood for an hour or two (assuming you live within the 15-mile diameter count circle and know the birds you see), you can help with the count. We also have field parties assigned to specific areas of each count circle. If you are an experienced counter, you may be able to help with areas not covered by others.
To prepare, or if you are not familiar with local birds, please join bird walks at RR Bridge Park on Wednesday mornings and go on OPAS field trips, in addition to looking at birds as much as possible this fall.
The center of the SDCBC circle is near the intersection of Brown and Port Williams Roads, so the circle includes Dungeness Spit, Dungeness and Sequim Bays, Protection Island, Diamond Point, some of the Olympic foothills south of Sequim, then west to MacDonald Creek
We will have our annual pre-CBC warm-up field trip on Sunday, Dec. 8, starting at Carrie Blake Park at 8:30 am. We will view birds in the park, then travel to Sequim Bay to observe water birds. Please join us!
If you are interested in participating, please email Bob Boekelheide at bboek@olympus.net to sign up.
