Meeting place: Meet at the Dungeness Levee footpath parking area at 7:30 AM, by the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse at Towne Rd and E Anderson Rd (link to levee parking area).

Directions: From downtown Sequim, take Sequim‑Dungeness Way about 5 miles north to the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse. When it becomes Anderson Rd, turn left at the schoolhouse into the parking area.

Features: The dike along the river offers excellent access into marsh and riparian habitat with eBird hotspots at this location that include the Dungeness River Dike Trail, Lower Dungeness River (Creamery) Trail, and the Dungeness–Towne Road Marsh. This area supports grassland birds, shrub species, and a variety of wetland birds. We should encounter many resident regulars—Great Blue Herons, Mallards, Northern Harriers, Red‑tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles, and chickadees—and I’ll be keeping an eye out for rails, Soras, snipes, and wrens, some of my favorite marsh dwellers. We’re scheduled until 11:30, though we may wrap up earlier depending on what we see and how captivated we are by what we find.

Special Requirements: The trail is generally good, no steep sections, though it can be muddy in places.  Do not wear your Jimmy Choo’s; wear sturdy shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.

Equipment Required: Bring binoculars and wet/cold‑weather gear. If you have a spotting scope, please bring it—our protocol is to make sure everyone gets a look. We’ll have 1–2 scopes available, but more are always welcome.

Contact information: Kathy McCoy (208) 921-1340. Text or call if you have questions!

Liability Form: The OPAS field trip liability release form will now be included in the Eventbrite registration. It will require a check mark that indicates you have read and agree to the liability form language before registration continues. Important! Please provide your first and last name and other participants’ names, if applicable, during registration. This requirement will free up your time and the field trip leader’s time to collect signatures.

Note: A waitlist has been enabled for this trip. If you need to cancel your reservation, please email webmaster@olympicpeninsulaaudubon.org.
