Meet at the Port Angeles City Pier & Hollywood Beach public parking area, 315 N Lincoln St, Port Angeles

Join us on the Discovery Trail in Port Angeles to look for seabirds, waterfowl, gulls, cormorants, and other wildlife along the waterfront.

Features: We’ll spend the morning walking east along the waterfront on the Discovery Trail, checking the harbor and shoreline for water birds. We’ll be looking for gulls, cormorants, and other seabirds, depending on what is around, as well as forest and songbirds along the trail.

Kathy also enjoys observing plants and mammals, so don’t be surprised if we stop to watch an otter or identify an interesting shoreline plant.

Around 50 bird species were recorded in this area between September and November last year. While we certainly won’t see them all in one morning, there should be plenty to look for. Kathy will create an eBird list from the trip and share it with participants afterward.

Meeting place: Public parking lot near the Red Lion Hotel in Port Angeles.

Directions: Take Highway 101 into Port Angeles and turn north onto Lincoln Street. Continue a couple of blocks to the public parking area at the waterfront. Look for Kathy wearing glasses, binoculars, and a bird baseball cap, carrying a clipboard.

Special requirements: This is an easy walk on a paved trail. Dress for the weather and bring a raincoat, warm layer, water, and a hiking stick if helpful.

We also recommend downloading the eBird, Merlin, and Seek apps before the trip. Kathy will be at the meeting location from 8:00 a.m. and is happy to help anyone who has not used the apps before.

Equipment: Bring binoculars and a scope if you have one. Kathy will also bring a scope, and participants are encouraged to share scope views.
