An Evening with Lyanda Lynn Haupt
Port Book and News, with the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, is proud to welcome Lyanda Lynn Haupt — naturalist, eco-philosopher, and author of Crow Planet, Mozart's Starling, and Rooted — to the Dungeness River Nature Center for an evening celebrating her new book Among the Birds: Field Notes from Cascadia (Skipstone), with eighty-five color illustrations by Justin Gibbens.
Lyanda will read from the book and share illustrations from it on screen, followed by a conversation with Port Book and News and questions from the floor.
This event will take place on Wednesday, October 7 in the Rainshadow Room at the Dungeness River Nature Center in Sequim. Free and open to the public. As space is limited, RSVP is highly recommended in advance. The evening concludes with a public book signing.
Among the Birds is an enchanting celebration of the Pacific Northwest's birds, brought to life by bestselling author and naturalist Lyanda Lynn Haupt. Join Haupt on a wandering journey through the region's avian world, drifting intuitively among species, much like you encounter birds on a neighborhood amble, forest trail, or windy shoreline. Acclaimed artist Justin Gibbens' richly detailed illustrations blend realism and whimsy to highlight each bird's distinct personality — and perfectly complement Haupt's stories to spark wonder, cultivate attentiveness, and remind us of our role in caring for the wild lives that thrive alongside us.
