Ken Wiersema

Our June 7 Backyard Birding program focuses on the annual conclusion of each year’s bird breeding cycle. Ken Wiersema explores with you the essential role parent birds play in protecting, feeding, teaching and guiding their offspring as they grow their feathers and leave their nests. Late spring and early summer become vulnerable times in the life of fledglings and new birds. Ken expands on how different species vary in preparing their hatchlings for survival and prospering in the world. He will discuss how adult birds interact with their young, as they rapidly grow and launch themselves into life. You will gain an understanding of their changing food needs and the vulnerabilities they face. You will learn how sub-adult, non-breeding birds interact with the newest generation. And importantly, you will better understand how to make your yards more inviting and less hazardous for young birds. Please join us for this program, filled with local photos, videos, and fun.

Admission to this program is free. However, we ask you to consider a donation of $5.00 per person to support our ongoing education and bird conservation programs. For your good health as well as that of other attendees and our volunteer staff, please be aware of the latest COVID-19 health precautions as recommended by Clallam County Public Health and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
