Our OPAS Backyard Birding series for February focuses on bird nesting, local nest types by species, early breeding-season behavior, and preparation for the upcoming National Audubon & Cornell Lab of Ornithology Great Backyard Bird Count. With spring just over the horizon, presenters Ken Wiersema and Ben Hannah will offer this updated, informative program.

Attendees will learn where and how local bird species select nesting sites, how they build their nests, how pair bonding plays an integral role in nesting, and how different species share parenting responsibilities.

The program will conclude with a “how‑to” walk‑through for birdwatchers of every age and skill level, encouraging everyone to participate in the upcoming Great Backyard Bird Count on February 13–16, 2026.

The program will also include a primer on using the eBird application for cell phones and computers—an essential tool for reporting bird sightings to fellow birdwatchers and the North American bird data science networks.

Admission to this program is free. However, we ask attendees to consider a donation of $5.00 per person to support ongoing OPAS education and conservation programs. Thanks for your support and interest!
