A message from Ken Wiersema, President of Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society
His sudden death on May 21st removed his welcoming smile and joy for nature from our midst. We mourn his loss.
Dennis Graduated from law school in Ohio, and practiced law in Toledo until he moved to Washington in 1986. He served for 23 years in the legal department of the City of Port Angeles, retiring in 2010.
He maintained a longtime Audubon membership. His many volunteer activities included: Ducks Unlimited, Sierra Club, the Peninsula Behavioral Health Board, the North Olympic Land Trust board, and the Dungeness River Audubon Center board. He was recently the President of the River Center’s Board.
When OPAS lost several of its board members in 2020, Dennis generously stepped forward and agreed to serve on our board. He participated in our most recent meeting on May 6th.
I treasured his friendship, counsel, dedication to birds, and our natural world. He rewarded us with a lasting stream of accomplishments, and commitment to others. Condolence cards may be sent to his wife, Barbara Fitzgerald, at 102 Quail Meadows Drive, Sequim 98382. Contributions in his name may be sent to the Dungeness River Audubon Center, PO Box 2450 Sequim, WA 98382
A "Celebration of Life" for Dennis will be held at Pioneer Park on Saturday June 12th from 1-3 p.m.
