Avian Influenza reaches Washington State and Clallam County.

The Washington Department of Agriculture (WSDA) in May of 2022 confirmed the presence of avian influenza in several backyard flocks across Washington State. WDFW has since confirmed cases of the disease in one wild bird, and has positive test results in several others, but are waiting for confirmation on those cases from federal laboratories.

2022 Washington Bird Flu Detections

As of 5/23/22, cases of bird flu have been confirmed in the following counties in domestic birds, backyard flocks.:

Thurston (medium flock), Whatcom, Okanogan, Clallam, Pierce, Spokane and Pacific (small flocks). Clallam County has had two reported cases in ducks and chickens. Small flock = <100, Medium = 100-1,000, Large = 1,000+

The wild bird affected was a Bald Eagle found in Stevens County.
