THREE CRABS BIRD STUDY 2014 - 2018

The Three Crabs Restoration Project, led by North Olympic Salmon Coalition and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, sought to increase salmonid use of the Meadowbrook Creek estuary by removing the old Three Crabs restaurant, rerouting Three Crabs Road, and enlarging tidal flow within Meadowbrook Creek. It also provided an opportunity for OPAS to see how birds responded to habitat changes created by the project. Did the project help birds at Three Crabs? Some yes and some no. Overall, the study’s greatest success was documenting how birds use the Three Crabs area. In total, OPAS volunteers conducted 352 surveys and tallied 430,297 birds of 181 species, described in detail within the report.

The following report describes the study carried out by OPAS volunteers at Three Crabs, near Dungeness, WA, from 2014 to 2018.
