Protection Island National Wildlife Refuge is a place in our region that has a mysterious appeal. The island is closed to visitors, yet its close proximity to the mainland means it doesn’t go unforgotten. The 400-acre island has a fascinating history that starts and ends with the S’Klallam people. Join Amos as he brings you on a virtual tour of the island where you can experience the sights and sounds of this incredible place. You will learn about the island’s cultural importance, agricultural destruction, and its significance to birds in the region.

Amos Almy joined the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's Natural Resources Department in August 2024 as Visitor Services Manager for the Tribe's Refuge Management Program. This program is responsible for overseeing the management of Dungeness and Protection Island National Wildlife Refuges.

Amos was born and raised in rural Maine before he left for school at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. Since then, he has pursued a career in the outdoors that took him to Alaska and eventually Washington. He has had the opportunity to work for the National Park Service, including all three National Parks in Washington, Washington State Parks, and Maine State Parks. His background is in Environmental Interpretation and Education.
