An Invitation to the Spectacular Diversity of Birds

Join Jim Karr, University of Washington Professor Emeritus, for a lecture and discussion series stimulated by a pioneering new book by John Reilly – The Ascent of Birds: How Modern Science Is Revealing Their Story (2018).
The February 11 lecture and discussion will include:
The Storm Petrel’s Story: Sympatry vs Allopatry (A bird missing for 150 years found nearby.)
The Albatross’s Story: The Species Problem (Dynamic soaring and a keen sense of smell.)
Each session will explore key concepts in the evolution of a bird species or group. All discussions richly illustrated with photos, maps, and other visual material. Read one or two average ten-page chapters for each session.
All sessions will be held on the second Tuesday of the month.
