"Swans of the Sequim-Dungeness Valley”

Meet at Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 Hendrickson Road, Sequim, WA

Free.

At the February OPAS meeting, Laura Davis and Liam Antrim will provide an update on one of OPAS's most valuable community science projects: the monitoring of swans using the Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Started in 2011, the swan project tracks habitats used by swans, keeps counts of their winter populations, and tries to help mitigate the hazard issues swans encounter when visiting our area. Thanks to Laura and Liam, a well-organized team of volunteers carries out weekly surveys of swans and their daytime feeding locations. The study also tracks the important ponds and marshes where swans gather to roost at night. Come learn the latest about these giant white birds gracing our winter landscapes.
