Leader: Bob Boekelheide
When: Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 8:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m.
Number of participants: 20— Registration required. Register below.

Meeting Place: Meet at the parking strip on the south edge of Carrie Blake Park soccer fields at 8 a.m. After an hour or two at Carrie Blake Park, we will travel to John Wayne Marina to view birds in Sequim Bay. We should finish by noon.
Features: Kick off the holiday season with our Pre-Christmas Bird Count, led by longtime birder Bob Boekelheide. This field trip is the perfect way to sharpen your skills before the official Christmas Bird Count. Together, we’ll scan the water and shoreline for winter ducks, gulls, and sparrows, and practice tallying big flocks of wigeons and mallards.
Special Requirements: December weather on the Olympic Peninsula can be brisk—cold, windy, rainy, or even snowy—but that’s part of the adventure. The trip is free, accessible to all (including wheelchairs and walkers), and limited to 20 participants, so be sure to register early.
Further information, if needed: Contact Bob Boekelheide at bboek@olympus.net
Liability Form: We ask field trip participants to sign a liability release form on or before the day of the trip. This signed form will be good for future field trips. You can review, download, and print the form in advance by visiting the OPAS website or clicking here. It’s preferred that you eSign the liability release form by clicking here.
