Presented by Neil Harrington
Rainshadow Hall at the Dungeness River Nature Center
May 18, 2022 7:00pm FREE
Invasive European green crabs are one of the world's top 100 invasive species with a wide habitat tolerance and an omnivorous diet. Neil Harrington will talk about the spread of the European green crab in the Northwest, its biology and potential ecological impacts of the invasion. He will also cover efforts to control the spread of this crab and prevent the establishment of populations in the Salish Sea.
Neil Harrington has been an Environmental Biologist with the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe since 2012. His work focuses on harmful algal blooms, shellfish safety, native Olympia oyster restoration, invasive European green crabs, and outreach and education. Previous to working for the Tribe, he worked as a shellfish biologist for the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe and as the Water Quality Manager for Jefferson County. He earned a BA in Biology and a Master of Science in Biological Oceanography from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
This presentation will be held at the new Dungeness River Nature Center, (formerly known as the Dungeness River Audubon Center) at 2151 West Hendrickson Road in Sequim.
