Meeting place: Meet at the Dungeness River Levee Footpath parking area at 9 am, by the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse at Towne Rd and E Anderson Rd.

Directions: From downtown Sequim take the Sequim Dungeness Way about 5 miles north to the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse.  It becomes Anderson Rd, turn left at the schoolhouse into the parking area.

Features: The dike along the river provides great access to a wide variety of habitats. eBird hotspots here are the Dungeness River Dike Trail, Lower Dungeness River (Creamery) Trail, and Dungeness-Towne Road Marsh.  This area can harbor grassland birds as well as shrub species and wetland birds.  We expect to see many of the resident species like Great Blue Herons, mallards, harriers, Red-tailed Hawks, Bald Eagles and chickadees. I’m going to be particularly looking for rails, soras, snipes, and Marsh Wrens, some of my favorite marsh dwellers.

Special Requirements: The trail is generally good, with no steep trails, but there may be mud.  Do not wear your Jimmy Choo’s, wellies are more appropriate.

Equipment Required: Bring binoculars and wet/cold weather gear. If you have a scope, please bring it.  Protocol on scopes is to make sure everyone gets a look. I will bring 1-2 scopes, but the more the merrier.
