OPAS Field Trip: Birding for Beginners
Date and time: Saturday, July 19, 2025, 9:00 a.m.
Leader: Stacey Fradkin
Participant limit: 12 — Register below at the “REGISTER” button.
Cost: Free
Meeting Place: Dungeness River Nature Center parking lot.
Features: This field trip is designed for those who would like to learn about the birds they see in their yards and neighborhoods. July is the time when most of the breeding birds have finished nesting, their babies have fledged, and the young birds are learning to find their own food. Bird singing will be limited so it is a great time to hone your spotting skills, concentrate on the field guide identification marks, study bird behavior and answer questions like, “Why is that a Purple Finch and not a House Finch?"
Bring: Binoculars if you have them. Don’t worry if you don’t. The River Center has binoculars for you to use free of charge. Also, I will bring a spotting scope to share with the group. Dress for the weather.
Special Requirements: This will be an easy walk on paved surfaces.
Liability Form: We ask field trip participants to sign a liability release form before the day of the trip. This signed form will be good for future field trips. You can review, download, and print the form in advance by visiting the Field Trips page on the OPAS website or clicking here. It’s preferred that you eSign the liability release form by clicking here.
