OPAS Backyard Birding: “Preparing Backyard Habitats for Winter”
Presenter: Christie Lassen, Wild Birds Unlimited, Gardiner, WA
Saturday, October 4, 2025
10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Dungeness River Nature Center

Throughout the year, more than 400 bird species can be viewed on the north Olympic Peninsula. A substantial proportion of these birds remain here for the winter, and of those, a select yet varied array of species visit our backyards when we provide habitat essentials: native food sources, clean water, and effective shelter. Our support may help some of these birds survive harsh winter conditions.

On Saturday, October 4, Christie Lassen returns to the Backyard Birding classroom to deliver her always popular seminar discussing the special winter needs of the Anna’s Hummingbird and dozens of other species that make the Pacific Northwest a yearlong home. Christie will demonstrate the latest in feeders and various foods formulated by Wild Birds Unlimited designed to attract specific birds while promoting thriving bird populations and discouraging unwelcome mammals! Moreover, she will stress how these products supplement a natural backyard habitat Following her presentation, Christie’s demonstration items will be available for sale so plan to stay a bit longer than the noon posted end-time.

Admission is free. However, we suggest a donation of $5.00 per person to support ongoing OPAS education and conservation programs. Please note that current Covid-19 safety precautions as recommended by Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and Clallam County Public Health will be followed for the protection of attendees and volunteer staff.
