Backyard Birding: “Sounds of Spring”
Presented by Dow Lambert & Ken Wiersema
Saturday, April 4, 2026 10:00 am. to 12:00 noon
Rainshadow Hall at Dungeness River Nature Center
Suggested donation: $5
As the winds of March drive the showers of April, Dow and Ken step forward to help you welcome spring to the North Olympic Peninsula. Our annual Backyard Birding program “Sounds of Spring” for 2026 features a new array of audio and video recordings prepared by veteran birder and photographer Dow Lambert, with the assistance of Ken Wiersema.
Dow’s excellent local photos and videos capture insights into both our resident and returning migrant birds as they commence their breeding season. His sound and video recordings refresh your knowledge of the bird songs and calls of spring heard throughout our local yards, fields, forests, and shores. Each year we add new recordings and photos, and mix in favorites from previous programs. Dow and Ken will also review for attendees the techniques of using the free Merlin Sound ID cellphone app offered by the Cornell Ornithology Lab.
Please join in the fun of this popular, refreshing annual program. Come and experience the energy, song, and color that birds offer us during their spring mating and nesting season.
Admission to Backyard Birding programs is free. However, we suggest you consider a donation of $5.00 per person to support our ongoing education and bird conservation programs. We’ll also ask you to join over 300 Audubon members in our community or to renew an expired membership.
