What we do

We are a volunteer chapter of the National Audubon Society and founding partner and supporter of the Dungeness River Audubon Center.

We live in a unique area. Bounded by the Olympic Mountains, Pacific Ocean, and the Salish Sea, we are blessed with a rich birding environment. The climate ranges from rain forest to semiarid. Plus, the peninsula is on the path for many migratory birds.

OPAS engages this environment with many events throughout the year including birding field trips, classes & workshops, our Backyard Birding program and public celebrations, such as the Olympic BirdFest. Event details can be viewed on the Events Calendar. Many members are also involved with conservation issues that are detailed on our Conservation pages of this website.

OPAS is a partner with the Dungeness River Nature Center, along with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the National Audubon Society.

General membership meetings are open to the public and normally held the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm (except not in December, July or August) that include local and regional speakers. On our Events Calendar page, you will see information about speakers on specific dates as the information becomes available. These meetings are usually held at the Dungeness River Nature Center.
